That concrete is the only suitable material to use on the Great South Koud from Papaßura to Hamilton, is the view of the Franklin Chambers of Commerce. -V: the half-vearly meeting of tne Chambers at Fokeno yesterday the following remit was carried: —‘That tho Main Highways Board be informed that nothing but concrete would bo satisfactory for the main Soutl\ Road from Papakura to Hamilton. and that this work be expedited.” Other remits carried were:—"That this conference of Franklin Chambers of Commerce, in view of the fact that the Main Highways Board is now empowered to expend money on subsidiary highways, thereby relieving county councils of a certain amount of responsibility, respectfully recommends the Franklin, Manukau and Raglan County Councils to earnestly consider cases of settlers who have no reasonable access to their properties.” “That the Highways Board be urged to increase the subsidy to £3 for £1 for the maintenance of the Great South Road, from Papakura to Mercer, and also the Pokeno-Paeroa highway, which would enable the Franklin County Council to expend more on feeder roads.”
