Dean of Dunedin, wdh the insignia of the Companion of the Most DistinSuished Order of St. Michael and t. George. The decoration was one of the King’s Birthday honours of 1928. Regarded as the “grand old man” of the Anglican Churi li in Otago, Dean Fitchett recently retired from active work at the age of 93. Born in England. he graduated from Otago University in 1882, at first entering the Wesleyan ministry, later joining the Church of England. In 1878 he became vicar of All Saints’, Dunedin, holding the position until early last year, a period of nearly 50 years. He was made Dtan of Dunedin in 1894. and the degree of D.D. was conferred on him by Trinity University, Toronto. Notable work in connection with religious and secular education has been done by him. H-* is the author of “Uvolution and Ethics,” and other works.
