COAL IN VICTORIA
“A PHENOMENAL MINE” (Australian and N,Z. Press Association) (United Service) Kecd. 9.5 a.m. LONDON. Monday. “Our Morwell (Victoria) property is tbe most phenomenal coalfield in the world,” declared Mr. Frank Hodges, managing director of the L. and N. Brown Coal Company, addressing the first ordinary meeting at Westminster. “Experts estimate that a single seam contains 45,000,000 tons. The company is not competing with the State mines at Yallourn, but is holding up development until brown-coal distillation is technically advanced. “We are at present concentrating on marketing. The rights of our process in Australian plants will be sent to Tasmania early in 1929. When they are working successfully, we hope to erect several plants at Morwell, capable of treating 2,000 day.”
