“THE TRAIL OF ’9B”

THREE THOUSAND ACTORS Because of Alaska’s inability to meet the housing demands of the 3,000 men and women who ppeared constantly during the filming of “The Trail of ’98,” the famous Chilkoot Pass sequence of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer production was* filmed at the crest of the Continental Divide, as the mountain tops above Colorado are known. Location scouts from the Culver City studios traversed more than 100,000 square miles of territory before locating a topographical duplicate of the famous pass, over which thousands of prospectors- struggled toward the land of gold in the most famous stampede in history. This epoch - making production, which represents a milestone in the progress of motion Pictures, will be shown throughout New Zealand shortly. THREE PLAYS IN ONE People wl.o see “Trelawney of the Wells” will be privileged to see three plays in one. This is possible because “Trelawney of the Wells” is a story of the stage, and two are produced on the stage as being parts of the picture play. The first of these plays is “Virginus,” a story of the Roman-Em-peror and a Christian slave. The second is a play supposedly written by Owen Moore. Nonna Shearer plays the leading feminine role, with Ralph Forbes playing opposite her. in this screen version of Sir Arthur Pinero’s play.

Lee Doyle, who is Zane Grey’s own guide during the author’s frequent excursions into the wilds of Arizona, has been selected as the official guide of the location party which is making “Avalanche”, a Zane Grey story, for Paramount- Jack Holt, Doris Hill and Baclanova have the principal parts in the production.
