“A BRITISH MASTERPIECE”
CRITIC’S OPINION OF “THE RING” “At last the British film industry has produced a masterpiece.” Such was the London “Sunday Observer’s” critic’s remarks after seeing for the first time British International picture's latest production, “The King.” Although “The King” is-designed as a popular entertainment, nevertheless, it is among the best half-dozen films yet made. It is a simple tale of two prize fighters, one a husband, the other a friend, but the handling of the events which lead to virtuous delivery of the knock-out is simply masterly. Carl Brisson, one of the most romantic of all modern stage lovers, plays the principal role, and he is supported by Lilian Hall-Davis, who not only looks beautiful, but acts well. “The King” will be released early in the Xew Year by Cinema Art Films. DIXIELAND CABARET This evening the monster non-stop dance will be held at the Dixieland Cabaret. Kendall's Collegians will cooperate with the Dixieland Dance Band to provide continuous music from 8.30 p.m., to 1 a.m., and the evening promises to be one of the biggest dancing ’ events of the year. Allan Priora, famous Australian tenor, has been signed by Metro-Gold-wyn-Alayer to appear in vocal productions. Lila Shields, Engfish vaudeville star, has also signed with this company, as have Eva La Gallienne, stage star. Robert Chisholm, musical comedy star, George Dewey Washington, ballad singer, Van and Schenck, and many other stars of the legitimate, grand opera and vaudeville stage. The latest addition to the Paramount picturisatiom of the famous Mason novel, “The Four Feathers," is Clive Brook. Others in the cast are Richard Arlep, Fay Wray, Noah Beery, Arnold Kent, Noble'Johnson and Theodore von Eltz. Merian Cooper and Ernest Schoedsack, the makers of “Chang,” are directing the studio scents.
