MUSEUM HAS NO FUNDS COUNCIL CAN PAY NO MORE “To-day the museum, which has cost hundreds of thousands of pounds, is down and out for want ef money,” said Cr. E. J. Phelan at »? City Council meeting last evening. Having now spent £2,524 the museum authorities find that they are faced with a £2,056 deficiency for the year ending March 31 next on their maintenance account. The council has given £2,000 tits year, and has nothing further available. “The council undertook to maintain the museum, but we have made payments of £4,000 In two years before the museum is open,” said Cr. J. A. C Allum, who suggested that the Finance Committee should, meet the museum director and see If anything could possibly be done. This was agreed to.
