Water From Huia Dam
MILLION GALLONS DAILY THIS SUMMER 1 NEW FILTERS COMPLETE Following the speeding up of a, work at the new Huia dam in the Wat takeres, it is now anounced that the chican draw a million gallons daily fn,,, the running water in the valley imini diately it is required. Cr. J. A. C. Allum, chairman of Water Committee of the City Counci’ gave this information in reply to question from The Sun this mjrning "Everything is now finished to eii able us to tap the running water aaj bring it to the city,” he said. The water will come to the city yb the new filtration plant, which wju eventually deal with the water f rom the Huia dam, and is situated near thf Titirangi filters. To carry the water from the dam this new plant there are about two an.' a-half miles of 21-inch pipes leadin' down the valley from the dam. The water will then enter a concrete tunne acting as a conduit, and piercing s ridge for a distance of 4,000 feet, /'’ror this the water will be conveyed by k 27-inch syphon to Mackie’s Rest, after which the water will be passed through the new filtration plant, and will thebe conducted through a large main tn join up with the main which brings the Nihotupu water to the city front th, Titirangi filter. The contractors will be finished wjth the new plant in two or three wee* This plant has been erected at a coh of some £ 35,000, and will deal with some 8,000,000 gallons a day, having a capacity for dealing with a mi»k, r . gallons a day more tnan the Tiring., plant. *
