LONDON PRODUCE MARKETS
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated November 3, from the l-ligh Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow.—The market is quiet, especially for shipment. Quotations are nominally unchanged. Hemp.—Manila: The market was firm and active until Wednesday, when under free offerings prices eased. “J” grade, for November-January shipment, sold - up to £37 10s. closing at £37 sellers. Sisal: The market is strong end prices are higher. Tanganyika No. 1 for January* March shipment sold up to £39 for best marks. Closing quotations (sellers) were, No. 1, £3B 10s; No. 2, £37. New Zealand: The market is still firm, but shippers are not offering freely. Business has been done up to £33 for high-points, £3O foxfair, and £2B 10s for common, NovemberJanuary shipments. These are closing : values. Tow: Rather better value. Second grade, £2O 10s, and third grade, £l7 15s. Eggs.—Supplies of new laid eggs are decreasing and business is brisk at higher prices. Present quotations are: : English, 22s to 30s per long .100; Dutch, Danish and French, 17s 6d to 245; Bel--1 gian, 38s 6d to 21s; South African, 16s 1 6d to 16s 9d; Lithuanian and Argentine, 13s to 16s; Polish and Russian, 11s 6d to 14s 6d.
Beans.—The market is firm and the demand is good for English, choice winter making up to 48s 6d and best spring 575. Chinese hoi-se for October-November shipment sold £lO 15s. Danish Cocksfoot. The market is firmer, and there is more inquiry. Nominal value for November shipment, 645, c.i.f., Aew Zealand. Oat*.—English threshing is delayed by bad weather and supplies are smaller, choice white feed making up to 30s. There is better inquiry for imported. Plate for January shipment sold at 25s and new crop Chilean for February-March shipment 25s 6d. Nominal value of New Zealand “A” grade Gartons for November shipment is 325. Peas. Maple: English show good quality, the best making up to 58s. Imported is very quiet, and the New Zealand price is nominally unchanged at 61s 6d for November shipment. Blues: Business is confined to English and Dutch, imported being neglected. Nominal values are: New Zealand, £lB a ton; Tasmanian, £39. Wool. The tendency of prices for Merino tops is against buyers. The demand continues slow for crossbred tops.
