LAST OF OLD BRIGADE
FISHERMAN’S THIRTIETH VISIT The last of. the old fishing brigade. That is the rather melancholy title held by J. C. Buckingham, who arrived from England, via Sydney, on the Marama this morning to fish. New Zealand waters once more: But there is nothing melancholy about Mr. Buckingham. This is his 30th trip to New Zealand, and he is just as happy as on his first visit many years ago. Mr. Buckingham recalled this morning that when he first went to fish at Rotorua the railway ran only to the banks of the Waikato, near Cambridge. He also remarked that Mr. A. D. Campbell was the man who caught the first swordfish. and made the capture of those sea giants an attraction for the fishermen of the world. At one time Mr. Buckingham was engaged in trading in the South Seas., with headquarters at Tahiti.
