NEW COURTS OPENED

RAILWAY WORKERS’ ENTERPRISE (From Our Own Correspondent) A large crowd was present at the official opening of the Te Kulti Railway Tennis Club’s new courts, the ceremony being performed by the Mayor, Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, during the week-end. Mr. R- Schumaker, president of the Railway Social Club, presided, and briefly outlined the history of the movement which led up to the formation of the new courts, which have been constructed on a plot of land of acres, donated by the Railway Department as a playing ground. The social club, by means of socials and dances, had raised funds for improving this area, which a short time ago was nothing more than a swamp. He then handed over the keys of the court to Mr. O’Hanlon, president of the tennis club. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies’ committee.
