GOLD JACKET’S VICTORY
Trotting at Epsom ETTA COLE WINS AGAIN IN delightful weather and before a large attendance, the Auckland Trotting Club staged the concluding day of its spring fixture. The track was in splendid order. Results:—

Won by two and a-half lengths, a length separating second and third horses. A good favourite for the Green Lane Trot was found in Bright Light, who was entrusted with £1,022, others to como in for support being Lonesome £Bl3, Etta Cole £619, Gold Sovereign £395 and Kolmar £233. Gold Sovereign got up at the start, and later on several made mistakes, including Golden Gate, Gold Star, Roma Bingen, Kolmar and Anseline. Lonesome went out fast, and was well clear entering the back stretch frojn Etta Cole, Golden Gate, Roma Bingen, Gold Star and Bright Light. Lonesome was just clear of Etta Cole and Bright Light passing, the post the next time, a long way back being Kolmar, Gold Star, Roma Bingen and Anseline. Three furlongs from home Etta Cole went up to the leader, and headed her into the straight, with Bright Light handy, the trio being at length intervals, with a dozen lengths back to Kolmar, Gold Sovereign and Anseline. Lonesome got up when fighting it out with Etta Cole, and the latter won handsomely by two and a-half lengths from Lonesome, with Bright Light half a length away third. Anseline was a poor fourth, and next to cross the line were Gold Sovereign, Roma Bingen, Kolmar and Gold Star. An inquiry was held into the galloping of Lonesome over the last 100 yards, but the committee decided to tako no action. NEWMARKET HANDICAP Of £300; 2.19 class; IS miles 2—LAPLANDER (C. Nelson Dillon was the sole defection from the Newmarket Handicap, and of the 14 starters backers expressed a preference for Great Peter, £1,336, Laplander, £1,201, and Joy Bird, £530. Ribbonwood’s Last, Abrudbanya, Maid of the Mountains, and Rockburn failed to go off correctly, and Maid of the Mountains was early pulled up. Hohora led early from Peter Grattan, Cora Tacks, Cornelian, Cute Lad, Van Rich. Joy Bird, and Laplander, with the favourite well back. Passing the stands again, Cora Tacks and Hohora were on terms from Van Rich, Peter Grattan, Cute Lad, Laplander, Joy Bird, Ribbonwood’s Last, Abrudbanya, and Great Peter, the last named being in an almost hopeless position. Down the back Cora Tacks was just in front of Van Rich, Cornelian, Peter Grattan, Laplander, Cute Lad, Joy Bird, and Great Peter, the last-mentioned making a run from this point. Into the straight Cora Tacks and Van Rich were together ahead of Peter Grattan, Laplander, Cornelian, and Great Peter. Once straightened up, Laplander hit the front, and went on to win from the outsider, Van Rich, by a length and ahalf, with Great Peter half a length away third. Ribbonwood’s Last was

Ali paraded for the big event, the Alexandra Handicap, and .Jackie Audubon £1,713 carried more support than the Western King—Jewel Po;nter bracket, £1,133, fair support also being forthcoming for Gold Jacket £ 673, Machine Gun £586 and Loch Moigli £493. Dillon Huon and Western King were slow off, and Young Blake failed to settle down and was pulled up after a circuit. Lady Dunmore l£d past the stands the first time from The Shrew, Dillon Huon, Talent, Loch Moigli, Jackie Audubon. Western King, Gold Machine Gun and Jewel Pointer, the field being fairly well strung out. They bunched along the back, where Western King made a spurt and was in charge passing the stands the second time, with The Shrew, Loch Moigli, Lady Dunmore and Dillon Huon being right up, and Talent, Jackie Audubpn, Gold Jacket, Machine Gun and Jewel Pointer followed. Three furlongs from home The Shrew and Western King were the leaders from Loch Moigh, Dillon Huon, Lady Dunmore, Talent, Jackie Audubon (who here got into trouble), Gold Jacket and Machine Gun. Crossing the top Loch Moigh was in charge and they tur" ->d for home ahead of Dillon Huon * .th Gold Jacket, Machine Gun, Jewel Pointer, Jackie Audubon, Talent and The Shrew following. Once in line Gold Jacket, set after Loch Moigh, Western King being beaten quickly, and in a fine finish beat him by half a head. A length and a-half away was "Western King, with Dillon Huon half a length back. Then followed Jackie Audubon and Machine Gun, with a gap back to Talent and Lady Dunmore, with Jewel Pointer (who broke in tho straight) and The Shrew last. The withdrawal of Pageant left but six in the Junction Handicap, an interesting betting race seeing the money put in for Taipare £1,007, Fight Ever £953, and Harvest Child £BO6. Gold Dial and Dick Dillon got up at the start and lost a good deal of ground. Harvest Child led past the stands the first time from Nelson Tasker, Gold Dial, Taipare, Fight Ever and Dick Dillon, the field being in fairly close order. There was no change in the order in the next circuit, but along the back Taipare made a move, which he could not sustain. Harvest Child led into the straight a length in front of Nelson Tasker, with Taipare two lengths away, and Fight Ever right up. Harvest Child drew out in the run home to score comfortably by a length and a-half from Fight Ever, with Nelson Tasker a length back third. Two and a-half lengths away was Gold Dial, with Dick Dillon next. (Later Results will be found in Stop Press as they come to hand.) TRENTHAM QUIET THIS MORNING’S WORK-OUTS Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. It was an off morning at Trentliam, tho weather being cold, and there was a slight fall of rain. Sapient sprinted three furlongs on the grass in 40 2-5. Pink Note, \vho looks well, cantered once round on the tan, and Chelone galloped six furlongs on the grass, the last three in 38. He is in excellent order. Staghunter cantered. Commendation was schooled at the barrier, and after being just a little restless, jumped out smartly. He should be right on race day. The Hawk and. Goshawk did useful work. Black Mint cantered two rounds, moving freely when warmed up.
