NOT FOR TWO YEARS

MOVING ST. STEPHEN’S SCHOOL £25,000 TO BE BORROWED At least another two years will elapse before St. Stephen’s School, Parnell, will be- moved- from its present site to a suitable position in the country. In addition to the pursuance of the regular curriculum for- secondary education, practical Instruction in various branches of agriculture will be given, when the school is transferred, and the General Church Trust Board has been authorised to borrow on all or any part of the Native Schools Trust Estate for the purpose up to £25,000. This information was contained in the concluding portion of Archbishop Averill’s charge to the Diocesan Synod yesterday. The Primate said it was not intended to change the nature of the school to any great extent but simply to provide facilities for those boys who wished to be trained in agricultural pursuits in addition to the other branches of learning. Though pakeha boys, under the terms of the trustee, could be, and had been, educated at St. Stephen’s it would in all probability continue to be used chiefly for the education of native boys.
