FOR NARCISSI LOVERS
NEW CHALLENGE CUP GIFT FROM BRITISH RAISERS Twenty British raisers of narcissi have subscribed £5 each for a challenge cup to be presented to “Lovers of the Flower in New Zealand for Narcissi raised in the British Isles and exhibited in New Zealand.’’ It is going to the National Daffodil Society of New Zealand, of which Sir Heaton Rhodes is president. The cup, which is for annual competition, Dears the following inscription : “The British Challenge Cup. Presented by British Raisers to Lovers ol the Flower in New Zealand for Narcissi raised in the British Isles and exhibited in New Zealand. Far from Home and yet at Home.” It has also inscribed on the base tho names ot the donors, says “The New Zealand News,” London. There arcalso five small replicas, one of which will be presented at each annual event to the winner. The cup is silver-gilt, and is an exact replica of one of three which were presented by the Houses of Commons to the President of the .French Republic when he visited London at the time of the inauguration of the Entente Cordiale in the reign of King Edward VII. It was at that time specially selected as being typical of the best British silversmith’s work. The presentation of .this cup is mainly due to the efforts of Mr. P. D. Williams, of “Lanarth,” St. Keverne R. 5.0., Cornwall! Mr. Williams approached Sir James Parr with his suggestion, and the High Commissioner informed him that he thought the idea was an excellent one, and that he would be pleased to take charge of the cup and arrange for it to be sent to New Zealand.
