WOMEN’S TOURNEY MISS GAISFORD OUT (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Monday. The South Auckland ladies’ tournament was continued this afternoon. Miss B. Gaisford was defeated in the first round of the championship by Miss Brewster, of New Plymouth. Results were: Miss Kay beat Miss Buddie, 6 and 5; Mrs. Hosking beat Miss Wilkinson, 4 and 3; Miss Culling beat Miss Rathbone, 2 and 1; Mrs. Slee beat Miss Beverley, 2 and 1; Miss McNaughton beat Miss Masters, 2 and 1; Miss Acheson beat Mrs. Mander, 4 and 3; Mrs. Wilson beat Mrs. Milroy, at the 10th; Miss Brewster beat Miss Gaisford, 3 and 2. Miss J. Easton won the bronze medal, •J 9—26, 73. The bogey competition resulted:— Seniors: Miss Wallace, 1 up; Miss I>. Horton, all square. Junior: Mrs. Chamberlain, 1 down. Mrs. W. J. King and Miss Brewster tied in the putting competition. DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS DUNEDIN, Monday. The topic of conversation among golfers at present Is the New Zealand championship tournament which opens at Balmacewan links on Friday morning. Indications point to the tournament being highly successful. Competitors have already commenced to arrive. Among them are Sloan Morpeth, holder of the amateur championship, who is reported to be showing form that promises well for his play during the tournament; A. G. Sime, who won the amateur championship in 1921, and who rerecently won the West Coast championship; T. H. Horton, amateur champion in 1925; J. Duncan and Morgan Duncan. A. J. Shaw, winner of the open championship in 1926, E. S. Douglas, winner of the open championship at Dunedin in 1913, and a. number of other professionals have also arrived. The course looks very well, but unless rain falls before Friday the greens will be very hard when the championships commence. Great interest is being taken in the fixture, and the Otago Golf Club executive has arrangements well in hand. CLUB MATCHES Titirangi.—Entries close to-morrow for the Ballin Cup. Thirty-two qualify on handicap and play-off. One Tree Hill.—ln the semi-final of the “C” grade championship, L. Knight beat R. W. Verry, 4 and 2. A bogey handicap resulted:—C. M. King (8), J. S. Rankin (9), and H. H. Worsley (9), all 2 up. Everslie Ladies.—ln the final for the chib championship Mrs. R. Lever beat Miss J. Little, 8 and 7.
