CRASH INTO BRIDGE
CAR’S' WHEELS LOCK OCCUPANTS ESCAPE INJURY (Special to THE StJN) PALMERSTON N., Sunday. As a small motor-car, driven by Mr. T. A. Wildon, of the Bay of Plenty, was approaching a narrow bridge near Feilding yesterday, the driver noticed a service car had already begun the crossing. He immediately applied his brakes, but they locked. The car plunged into the air, crashing down on to the side of the bridge. Only the closeness of the uprights prevented the motor from falling into the river 30 feet below. The front wheels were actually overhanging the stream. The two men in the car escaped injury, although they were suffering from shock, and after the vehicle had been righted by a lorry and a burst tyre replaced, they were able to continue on their journey.
