LONDON’S NEXT MAYOR

LIKELY CHOICE PROPHESIED SIR KYNASTON STUDD British Official Wireless. RUGBY. Saturday. It is expected that the next Lord Mayor of London will be Sir Kynaston Studd, who has for many years been prominently identified with social work, and who was, in his younger days, a notable cricketer. He played for Eton and Middlesex, and captained the Cambridge University team in 1884. Sir Kynaston’s election is mado probable by the generous action of his friend, Sir Harold Moore, who, although a much younger man, is the senior alderman eligible, and would normally have become the next Lord Mayor. This will be the second occasion that Sir Harold has stood aside to enable an older man to assume the highest municipal honour. A similar action last year made possible the election of the present Lord Mayor, Sir Charles Batho. The election ceremony will take place at the end of this month.

Sir John Edward Kynaston Studd is one of a famous group of cricketing brothers, including C. T. Studd and G. B. Studd (Eton, Cambridge and Middlesex), R. A. Studd and H. W. Studd (Eton, Cambridge and Hampshire). Sir Kynaston was born in 1858. He was senior Sheriff of London, 1922-23, and Aiderman of the wards of Farrington Without. He is well known for his work in connection with The Polyetechnic, Regent Street, of which he has oeen chairman for 25 years. He married in 1924 Princess Alexandra Lieven, daughter of Prince Paul Lieven, of Russia.
