TROTTING TOPICS
The now well-known pacer, The Abbey, who for a time was much in the public eye, was an attendant at Alexandra Park this morning under the charge of trainer Jack Shaw. The Abbey, an aged geldins. by Gold Bell —Abbess, who, after a somewhat chequered career last season, showed promise by winning a double at the Manawatu fixture and later secured a victory at Wanganui, has been purchased by Mr. M. Moodabe, the successful owner, whose colours have been well to the fore of late through the agency of Jewel Pointer, Western King and Amaris. The chestnut gelding, who has been in charge of A. E. Adams at Mangers, was brought to Auckland yesterday by Jack Shaw, the -Ellerslie trainer, and to-day paid a visit to Epsom, where he was indulged in easy work. He is in good shape; in fact, he was inclined to get well on his toes to-day, and appeared anxious to speed up. Aucklanders Go South A. Julian left last night for Wellington with Medusa and I'olle Audubon to fulfil their Hutt Park engagements. Before leaving the pair were given a final work-out, when the colt gave the better display. Medusa tangled more than once on the journey and her effort was not encouraging. Latest Scratchings The following scratchings are announced for the Wellington Trotting 'Club's Saturday fixture; New Zealand Cup Trial. —St. Maura. Borough Handicap.—Nan Brent. Wellington Handicap.—Nan Brent.
