Aorangi to Limited in Forty Minutes 290 BAGS FOR SOUTH Forty minutes after the Aorangi dropped her anchor in the stream last evening the mails for Wellington were in the van of the Limited express. i , As soon as the vessel anchored a j squad of postal officials boarded her j and, with most commendable speed, | soon had the first lot of mail into a j waiting launch. A few minutes later ! the launch was speeding for the Admiralty steps, where the mail was placed in a lorry and taken to the van of the Limited. All the Southern letter mail which arrived on the Aorangi was put op board either the Limited or the second express in record time. Altogether over 290 bags were handled. The men had to carry the mail, bag by bag, up the Admiraltysteps, as the tide was out. The Aorangi did not arrive in the stream until 6.10 o’clock and dropped anchor at 6.20. The first consignment was aboard the Limited at 7 o’clock and the second on to the second express at 7.35 o’clock.

Mr. J. Madden, superintendent of mails, and Mr. L. Prideaux, superintendent of overseas mails, were in charge of the proceedings.
