DAFFODIL DAY

FUNCTION AT MANUR, .WE. \ The sixth annual daffodil day of the combined guilds of the Manurewa Presbyterian, Methodist, and Anglican Churches, was held in the Manurewa Town Hall on Tuesday afternoon and evening. There were large attendances, and the funds of each of the guilds concerned will be substantially augmented. Mrs. C. S. McCallum deelared the stalls open for business, after which she received a beautiful bouquet of spring flowers from little Heather Carroll on behalf of the members of the combined guilds. Short addresses were given by the Rev. W. J. Elliott, the Rev. Mr. Griffin, and the Rev. Mr. Carroll. The arrangements of the function were in the hands of Mrs. C. S. McCallum, president; Mrs. T. Wood, secretary; and Mrs. W. Cox, treasurer. Stalls were erected in the hall, and keen competition was displayed in the dainty decoration of them. The following were in charge: Flower stall. Mesdames Sheldon, Youngson, and Clark; cake stall, Mesdames Murray, Neild, and Miss Smith; sweet stall, Mesdames Gibbs, Weir. Misses Fawcett and Nefson; produce stall, Mesdames Collie, Griffin, and IT. Robertson; refreshment stall, Mesdames Whyte, Gallaher, C. Robertson, Finlayson, Gray, Cox. and Macdonald! Keen interest was displayed in the baby carnival, each of the guilds having a representative. The final results were: Baby Wall, Presbyterian Guild, 1;• Baby Cole. Anglican Guild, 2; Baby Craig, Methodist Guild, 3. During the evening a very enjoyable programme of musical items, organised by Mrs. R. Forbes, was given. A number of competitions were the cause of much gaiety. The hat trimming was won by Mr. A. C. A. Sexton, with Mr. Harris runner-up, while Mr. McCallum’s attempt was highly commended. Mrs. Finlayson won the ladies’ nail-driving competition, and Mr. E. Fawcett the men’s section.
