Switch Ceremony OPOTIKI FESTIVAL MINISTER IN A FIX The crippling by fire of the H orahora power station placed the Hon. K. S. .Williams, Minister of Public Works, in the same pre > '- dicament as old Mother Hubbard. When he went to perform the ceremony of switching on power for Opotiki, there was no power to turn on. Nevertheless, a dinner was held to celebrate the event. (From Our Own Correspondent) OPOTIKI To-day. The Hon. K. S. Williams, member for the made a special journey from Wellington to Opotiki to perform the official ceremony of turning on the power from Horahora to the Bay of Plenty Power Board’s district. A huge crowd, which completely blocked all traffic in Church Street, gathered to see the ceremony of on. A few* minutes before the ceremony commenced the power failed. Mr. _H. R. Hogg, chairman of the board, addressed the crowd, and explained that a serious breakdown had occurred at the Horahora works, and Mr. Williams then briefly expressed his disappointment at such an unfortunate occurrence, and the ceremony was abandoned. Early in the evening an official dinner was held to honour the occasion of switching on the electric power. Leading public men from all parts of the Bay and other places attended. The chairman of the board welcomed Mr. Williams, and later presented him with an electric clock. Power for the Opotiki district is being temporarily supplied from the Whakatane borough supply. Only a limited supply will be available until repairs are effected at Horahora.
