ST. JAMES THEATRE

REVUE STILL POPULAR Testifying to the excellence of its farce, the “League of Notions” Revue Company continues to draw big houses during its third week at the St. James Theatre. With a new series of sketches, Syd Beck puts ample life into the show. First he appears in nautical garb, then as a parson, and finally in a judge’s wig and gown. He gets one of the biggest laughs in the show in a mock demonstration of mind-reading. Mike Connors, Queenie Paul and Erne Paulasto also add their quota in making the show a success, Mr. Connors and Miss Paul singing w and dancing with their usual versatility. “Sunny” and “Tannhauser” selections are given by Linn Smith and his clever jazz band. “Asleep in the Deep” is another novelty as a duet between the trumpet and the tuba. Members of the league give in cos, tume an enjoyable playlet, “Tulip Time in Holland.” Valerie Rougal and Bert Rayne appear in a charming Dutch dance, and Les Pearce sings the solo. In costume Mr. Pearce also sings “Somewhere South of Shanghai.” Phyllis Baker and Gladys Shaw lead the Exquisite Six Ballet in dance numbers.
