VANGUARD OF GRAND OPERA
W. J. P. FITZGERALD ARRIVES Mr. W. J. P. Fitzgerald, representative of the Fuller-Gonsalez Grand Opera Company, arrived in Auckland to-day. The principals of the company will follow later. The cast for the opening opera, “II Trovatore,” which will be produced at the St. James Theatre on Monday, September 10, will also reach Auckland shortly. It w'ill include Signorina Silvestri, a brilliant soprano, who will sing Lenora; Signorina Borroni, leading ballerina, and Signor Rodolfo Gonsalez, one of the five brothers who produce the score of operas in the company’s repertoire. Mr. Fitzgerald, who recently joined the Sir Benjamin and Mr. John Fuller management, was formerly well known in Melbourne as a practising barrister and solictitor. He has latterly carried on a legal practice in Sydney where he closely identified himself with the musical and dramatic world there, and was for many years the honorary secretary of the Shakespeare Society of New South Wale«s. He was a founder and vice-president of the Players’ Club. Sydney, and a guiding spirit in other kindred organisations. He has relinquished the legal practice to join the world of the theatre on its musical side.
