LOOKING OVER THE FENCE EAGLE EYE OF AUTHORITY SCOTTY BRYCE’S PREDICAMENT A rather good story is being told at the expense of the well-known trainer J. Bryce, whose driver’s licence was recently suspended as a result of further adjudication in the much-dis-cussed Free Advice ease. The suspension came into force before the final day of the fixture at Addington, and rr rir yc r— -.1. r;

An official well up to his "duty advised the trainer to take his departure and Bryce decamped, taking up his temporary abode at Tomkinson’s quarters adjacent to the Addington grounds. But the saddle race was about to start, and having the fractious Native Chief engaged “Scotty’* became anxious. “Where can I sse the start of this race,” he inquired of a stable attendant, and was promptly shown a pla,ce of vantage on the fence surrounding the track. The position was quite a good one and the horses were lining up at the barrier, when a club scout espying the rail-sitter and not knowing his bird, came along remarking. “Get out of that and pay your bob at the gate like a sport.” Bryce, with his eyes on the starter, said: “What do you do, mon. when you haven’t got a bob.” “Stop away, like a man,” replied the scout. Then the shout went up "they’re oft,” Native Chief went off from behind his mark, and Scotty, probably pot in the best of humour, got oft the fence.
