OTAHUHU CLUB’S PROGRESS
COME interesting figures showing the progress of the Otahuhu Trotting Club since 1903 were given by the chairman, Mr. Watts, at the annual meeting on Friday. In the year mentioned, the stake money for seven days’ racing amounted to £1,430, while the totalisator returns reached £4,430. Ten years later the figures were £7,045 and £22,609 respectively. In 1923, when the club held a brace of two-day fixtures, which proved a record for machine investments, the cum of £195,020 being handled, while the stakes distributed amounted to £13,105 Last year £14,150 was divided amonq successful owners, and the totalisator revenue was £182,402. Although the club has experienced a year of heavy expenditure, the chairman stated that there would be no reduction in the prize money for the season just entered.
