NEW REGENT
VAUDEVILLE AND PICTURES The big double feature programme, which is the current attraction at the New Regent Theatre, will be shown for the last time to-morrow evening. This programme includes one of the enjoyable comedies produced by those two fun-makers, W. C. Fields and Chester Conklin. The story tells of Richard Whitehead, a promoter, who buys an option on a sand-pit in Huntersville for 250 dollars, and lays his plans to promote a fake oil well. As soon as he arrives in town he makes a friend, Ray Caldwell, son of a well-known family, whom he hires as manager of the oil company. But he also an enemy, Samuel Hunter, a leading citizen and local pool champion. The role of Richard Whitehead is a typical one for W. C. Fields, and Chester Conklin has an admirable role in the small town shopkeeper. The second feature, an entirely different style of picture, is a dramatic story of love and intrigue entitled “A Night of Mystery,” and stars Adolphe Menjou Menjou has been given an excellent supporting cast, headed by Kvelyn Brent and Nora Lane as the contenders for the love of Menjou. On the stage a most enjoyable entertainment is provided by the Kleven Rascals, a band of clever juveniles. They dance and tumble and present gymnastic feats of an unusually high order. Their number also contains some excellent contortionist trapeze acts. 'Plie musical programme is capably handled by Mr. Maurice Cuttridge and his Regent Operatic Orchestra.
