ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION
INCREASE IN SPIRITS The alcoholic consumption of the New Zealander is measured by the Government Statistician in a recent report During 1927, he says, the consumption of alcoholic liquor a head of population (including Maoris) was: Beer, 8.885 gallons; spirits, 0.523 gallons; wine, 0.171 gallons. The amount of spirits entering the country for home consumption rose from 658,293 gallons in 1926 to 752,472 gallons last year.
