VISITING WARATAHS

TEAM SELECTED MANY PLAYERS NOT AVAILABLE Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. “It is unfortunate that quite a number of Waratahs are unavailable for the trip, owing to their already long absence on the overseas tour,” wrote the secretary of the New South Wales Rugby Union to the New Zealand Rugby Union. “However, we are sending you quite a good side, which should give an excellent account of itself. The forwards will be big and good ruckers, one or two being extremely clever in the open. The backs are only youngsters, but are very fast and are capable of playing good, clean, open football. “There are three Waratahs making the trip,” continues the letter. “Malcolm (halfback), who has been chosen as captain, Towers (centre) and Judd (forward). Towers figured in all the international matches at Home and is still the outstanding centre in the State, both in attack and in defence.” The players to make the trip are: Fullback, Westfield; wings, Hemingway, Hammill, White; centres, Towers, Caldwell, Bull, Burge; five-eighths, George, Bartley; halfbacks, Snell, Malcolm; forwards, Judd, Cerutti, Comrie, Thomson, O’Donnell, Phipps, O’Connor, Lamb, Bland, London, Rosenblum, Abbott, Bardsley, Munsie, Mahager, Morgan, Contor. A member of the management committee of the New South Wales Union will also accompany the team.
