KILLED BY MOTOR-CAR
NIGHT-WATCHMAN’S DEATH RAIN AFFECTS DRIVER’S VISION (From Our Own Correspondent) OTAHUHU, To-day. A nightwatchman, Mr. William Coe, aged 63 years, was knocked down and killed by a motor-car in Great South Road, Otahuhu, early this morning. Mr. Coe, who is employed as a nightwatchman at the Southdown Freezing Works, was on his way home at 12.30 this morning, and when just south of the Westfield works was knocked down by a car driven by Mr. Percival Colin Lewis, with a Mr. Dufty as passenger. The motorist picked up Mr. Coe and took him to Ur. Rowley's house at Otahuhu, but he was dead when he got there. The accident occurred when another car . was passing and drizzling rain made visibility very bad. The driver did not see Mr. Coe until he was a few feet away, and his efforts to avert an accident made the car skid on the slippery concrete road. An inquest will be held to-morrow.
