NEW REGENT
DOROTHY GISH IN “TIP-TOES”
An excellently varied programme is being presented at the New Regent Theatre this week, comprising two big feature pictures and the novel dancing act by Meazza and Adrienne.
These two Continental dancers have created a sensation every evening with their remarkable dances. Their creations possess charm and artistry of a high order, and in addition to this elegance so unusual and so daring that audiences have accorded them very warm applause. They are now appearing for their last three nights at the New Regent. The main pictorial attraction, however, is a story of London, entitled ‘ Tip Toes,” which was a last year’s New York stage success. British National Pictures, Limited, whose studios are in London, bought the screen rights especially for Dorothy Gish, the American star, whom they had under contract. ‘‘Tip Toes” and her two "uncles,” A 1 and Hen, known in vaudeville as "The Three Kayes,” having finished their contracts in America, have arrived in England, and the story opens as they get their first try-out at a provincial music hall. "We’ll knock ’em stiff,” says A 1 to Hen, before the curtain. ‘‘A great try-out—and then London,” says "Tip Toes” to the two old war horses as they go on. But —"Yours is the worst act that has ever played this house,” the manager disgustedly decides. "I’ll take ‘Tip Toes’ as a single dancing act, but you two hams are out.” * "Tip Toes,” who has stuck to A 1 and Hen through thick and thin, mostly thin, since she was four years old, bursts into tears, angrily tells the manager that the “Kayes” stick together, and the three find themselves broke and jobless in a strange land. The incidental music is supplied by the Regent Operatic Orchestra under Mr. Maurice Guttridge.
