AGED MAORIS’ PENSIONS
TE AKARANA’S ACTION The policy of making maximum monthly instalments of £2 14s to Maori old-age pensioners when Europeans were granted £3 15s 10d, came in for comment by Te Akarana Maori Association members last evening. They thought the difference wholly unfair and passed a remit opposing those provisions of the Old Age Pensions Act which are to the disadvantage of Maoris. The remit will be sent to Maori members of Parliament and other members interested, and their cooperation will be sought. The association takes a serious view of the position and intends to make every effort to protect aged natives.
