LABOUR WOMEN MEET
NOBEL PRIZE RECOMMENDATION The Auckland women’s branch of the Labour Party held its fortnightly meeting last Thursday afternoon. The president, Mrs. Soljak, welcomed several new members and complimented the branch on the increased interest taken in its activities. The corresponding secretary, Mrs. E. Gibson read a letter from the Geneva secretary of tie Women’s International League, asking that the N.Z. section recommend Miss Jane Addams for the Nobel Prize, and it was decided to write to Sir Geo* Fowlds, Mr. H. E. Holland, and Professors Hunter and Shelley, asking them to sign a recommendation. The women of China, through the W.I.L. delegates, asked that representations be made to the League of Nations that foreign Powers be compelled to withdraw armed forces and battleships from China and that more stringent regulations be made to control the manufacture and sale of narcotic drugs. Arrangements for the forthcoming fancy dress ball were reported as being well in hand.
