RISING IN PORTUGAL

There has been another attempt at revolution in Portugal. A message from Lisbon says Captain Gonsalves and the garrison of the fortress of St. George declared a rebellion. The Government forces attacked them and there was an artillery, duel all night long. The rebels succeeded in capturing the neighbouring guards’ barracks, but were forced back and surrendered at 8.30 a.m. to-day. A Lisbon message says the official account of the revolt states that the leaders are under arrest, and the normal life of the city has been resumed. Artillery damaged adjacent houses, injuring the occupants. The total casualties were seven killed and 30 wounded, including the mutinous officer and soldiers.
