HOTEL, HALL AND STORE DESTROYED

Desperate Efforts of Bucket Brigade

Press Association GREYMOUTH, To-day. BLACKMAN’S Hotel, the gymnasium hall and the Co-opera-tive Store at Blackball were totally destroyed by fire this morning.

The outbreak was discovered about 12.30 a.m. The blaze had started in a storeroom behind the co-operative store, adn quickly ignited the adjoining gymnasium. Every effort was made by fire-fighters to subdue the outbreak, but fanned by the wind, the flames spread to the store, which was soon enveloped. The Stenhouse Store was also ignited, .as was the Oddfellows’ Hall, but by desperate efforts

Girl Falls From Tram. —A girl, aged about 16, named McPherson, was admitted to the Auckland Hospital early this morning unconscious with head injuries. She was hurt when she fell from a tram at the Mount Albert terminus. She regained consciousness about 11 o’clock, but is still seriouslv ill.
