BIG SATURDAY ATTRACTION
Children’s Day Out
THE big attraction in Axtckland to-day is the Winter Exhibition, and after the city business premises had closed for the week-end, large crowds began to flow through the sheds. Many children attended this morning.
W-ith the Saturday morning holiday, the exhibition was the mecca for large numbers of children. With financial resources assembled, many set out early from their homes. The boys, of course, had their attention held most firmly by the mechanical exhibits, and the working model display attracted a good deal of attention. Wireless goods, cycles, and motor-cars also came in for their share of notice. CHILDREN’S MORNING Jostling, wide-eyed groups of children gathered round the various showmen as they gave picturesque descriptions of their wares. The fancy-goods stalls halted the girls, and groups gazed wonderingly when they found that a small attachment could turn » sewing machine
into a piece of efficient darning apparatus. ATTENDANCE AND RECEIPTS . The gate takings at the exhibition yesterday were £391, a big increase on the first two days. The total “gate” for the first three days was £BOS, and the attendance approximately 12,000. To-day, however, there will be a heavy attendance that will raise the total well over £I,OOO. The big event to-day will be the dancing competitions, which will be held in two sections, the first running from 1.30 until 5 p.m., and the second from 6.30 until 10.30 p.m. There are classes for girls and boys, and also open events which are attracting good entries. To-night the carnival spirit will be given free rein, and with the big crowds, the music, and the show iteslf, those who go to the exhibition will take out an insurance policy against boredom.
