BIRKENHEAD ROBBERIES
THREE YOUTHS COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE Pleading guilty at the Police Court this morning to charges of thefts at Birkenhead, Edward William Keymer, aged 21, Neville Clifford Moller, aged 23, and William John Robinson, were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. All three prisoners had admitted breaking into the shop at Birkenhead, owned by Miss A. E. Hawkins, where they had stolen cigarettes and other goods to the value of £ 30 10s, said Detective Bickerdyke. Entrance had been effected by forcing a pane of glass at the back of the building. In regard to a second offence, when the shop owned by Mr. W. E. Roberts had been ransacked. Robinson was not implicated. The other two had said in their statements that they had met a stranger in Queen Street. They had all gone over to Robinson’s shop and the stranger had broken open the premises. All they had taken was cgiarettes. Chief-Detective Hammond: We have been unable to trace that stranger. The detective concluded by savins chat the prisoners had made a frank confession. All three offenders were released on bail.
