G. W. RUSSELL RE-ENTERS POLITICAL ARENA
Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. rpH E Hon. G. W. Russell anA nounces his candidature for the M id-Canterbury seat as a Liberal and will probably speak at Ashburton after the Budget. No Labour candidate so far has been announced, but the nomination of Mr. F. R. Cooke is probable. The Hon. G. W. Russell was elected member for Riccarton In 1893 and again in 1899. He represented Avon from 1908 to 1919, when he was defeated by Mr. D. G. Sullivan. In 1912 he became Minister of Internal Affairs and Public Health in the Mackenzie Government. He held the same portfolios, in addition to that of Minister of Marine, in the National Government from 1915 to 1919.
