WATER-SUPPLY BILL
PROTEST BY MT. ROSKILL At the meeting of the Mount Roskill Road Board last evening, the Auckland City Council submitted a copy of the proposed Water Supply Act, 1928, intimating that the Bill will be brought before the present session of Parliament. The chairman said that the City Council had an eye on the Maungatawhiri scheme, which would cost £1,000,000, and would result in increasing the board’s • price of water from Is to Is 6d a thousand gallons. The Bill, he said, aimed at cutting out the One Tree Hill and Onehunga su plies. “This,” said Mr. Jones, “is a question for local bodies. We cannot allow the City Council to do as it likes.” Mr. E. W. Foote said that the local bodies association was seeking legal advice on the question. Mr. Goodall pointed out that unless a protest were entered, the Bill would be advertised as a local Bill, and it may be necessary for the board to send a deputation to Parliament to protest against it.
On the motion of Mr. Scarborough it was decided to enter a strong protest against the pro Dosed Bill.
