PROPOSAL AFFIRMED Objecting to the proposal to admit women to the eldership of the Presbyterian Church, the Rev. E. R. Harries, at yesterday’s meeting of the Auckland Presbytery, said that in some cases it would put the woman in spiritual authority over her husband. The presbytery, however, discerning no danger in this, affirmed the proposal by 23 votes to 13. The Rev. W. D. Morrison, in moving the proposal, said 10 sessions had approved it, 13 had opposed it, and 13 had not replied. The Rev. W. Gilmour said the movement to admit women to the eldership and ministry had made rapid advance in Canada. If the women of the Church were to strike, the Church would be ruined in a few months. “Christ did not choose women among his apostles, because he had higher work for them to do,” said the Rev. J. A. Thomson.
