AFTER 40 YEARS
POSTMASTER RETIRES PRESENTATION TO MR. J. V. LAWES After 40 years’ service with the Post and Telegraph Department, Mr. J. V. Lawes, postmaster in charge of the Wellesley Street office, has retired on superannuation. He is at present on six months’ leave of absence and will live in Otahuliu. Mr. Lawes was in charge of the Wellesley Street post office for three years and has always proved himself a capable and popular officer. Before leaving on Saturday Mr. Lawes was met by the members of the staff and presented with an initialed suitcase. The presentation was made by Mr. A. Williams, who spoke of the excellent qualities of I\,lr. Lawes and his keen attention to duty. He said that the members of the office were losing a good postmaster, as well as a good friend. Mr. Lawes has served with the department in many parts of New Zealand, including Wellington. Christchurch, Greymouth, Otahuhu, Onehunga and Auckland. During the war he was stationed in Auckland and was a member of the Appeal Board here. Mr. Lawes has been appointed returning officer for the new Hauraki electorate.
