FIRE BRIGADE BALL
AT TE PUKE The Te Puke Fire Brigade held its fifth annual ball in the Alliance Hall on Monday night. A large number of folk from all parts of the district danced on an excellent floor to the music supplied by an orchestra consisting of Mrs. Woods (piano), Mr. Woods (cornet) and Mrs. J. Bennett (violin). The Whakatane Fire Brigade was well represented. All the Te Puke members of the brigade wore their uniforms. Fireman W. Nicholls made an efficient M.C. The supper tables looked particularly dainty with jonquils and green foliage. Extras were played by Misses Plaice and Harris. During the evening a Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Ethel Cuff oild Mr. Allan Gill. Mr. Gill received a silver eversharp pencil and his partner was the recipient of a box of linen handkerchiefs. Mr. Gordon McNaughton and his partner, Miss Mabel McGrath won the “Lucky Spot” waltz, and received a packet of cigarettes and a box of chocolates respectively. Among those present were: Miss A. Bostock, mauve crepe de chine. Miss M. Morton, pink beaded georgette. Miss C. Turner, mauve silk period frock. Miss E. Cuff, apricot crepe de chine with velvet trimming. Miss C. Wilson, pale pink taffeta with georgette inset. Miss N. Muir, white net frock. Miss W. Muir, pink embossed satin. Miss A. McGrath, champagne crepe de chine. Miss M. McGrath, cyclamen crepe de chine. Miss IT. Cook, green lace and silk. Miss K. Cook, blue crepe de chine. Miss E. Mollgaard, pink panne velvet. Miss M. Bell, scarlet ring velvet. Miss M. Collins, maize satin litienno. Miss A. Collins, cyclamen crepe de chine. Miss G. Cuff, red chiffon velvet. Miss J. Stewart, lemon satin crepe. Miss M. Kerr, pink and silver lame frock. Miss M. Plaice, pink satin crepe. Miss E. Ross, green crepe de chine. Miss E. Riley, black taffeta. Miss R. Webb, red cliiffon velvet. Miss S. Joyce, lemon satin crepe. Miss A. Thomas, blue crepe de chine. Miss D. Heerdegen, night blue satin with gold sequin trimming. Miss A. Mark, blue frock trimmed with silver sequins. Miss H. Matthews, mauve silk crepe. Miss R. Cooney, sea green crepe de chine. Miss K. Keys, black taffeta trimmed with gold. Miss T. Day, blue silk taffeta. Mrs. Pilcher, nattier blue georgette. Mrs. Matson, mauve lace frock. Mrs. Stewart, grey ( crepe de chine. Mrs. Shaw, leaf-green velvet.
