WATER FOR TUAKAU
BOARD DISCUSSES SCHEME (From Our Own Correspondent) TUAKAU, Tuesday. A water-supply scheme for Tuakau was considered by the Tuakau Town Board at a special meeting last evening. The chairman, Mr. W. J. Taylor, presided. It was proposed that to cover the cost of the scheme a loan of £9,000 be raised. With interest at 52 per cent, and sinking fund at 2 per cent., this would involve an apnual cost of £ 697 10s, to which was added estimated cost of pumping £6O, and upkeep and depreciation £l5O, making a total annual cost of £907 10s. Revenue from the sale of water for all purposes and from non-consumers’ rate was estimated at £4SI 3 os. leaving an estimated annual deficiency of £426, which would involve a special rate of 7-10 d in the £ over the whole capital value of the town district. The cost of water, plus the special rate, would amount to 13s a £IOO of valuation in the case of residences and farm homesteads. It was decided to put the details beforo the ratepayers, with a request that each ratepayer indicate whether or not he considered the board should take a poll on the proposals.
