BENEFIT DANCE

The Manurewa Picture Theatre was the scene of a gay fancy dress benefit dance on Alonday evening, when a large number met and spent a jolly evening, dancing to the music supplied by an orchestra, under the leadership of Aliss V. Pope, who also had the organising of the function in hand. During the evening a very enjoyable musical programme was provided by Victor Benno, patter comedian: Little Hazel, pupil of Aliss Stoddard; Air. Warbeck; and Auriole Pope. An exhibition of the Yale Blues was given by Aliss Veronica Pope and Air. E. Pope. The jazz competition was judged by Aliss Stoddard. and tho honours were awarded to Air. Cecil Nicholson and Aliss Edna Williams. Other competitions held during tho evening were won by Air. J. Richardson and Aliss C. Pope; Mr. Gibbons and Aliss Neil; Air. A. Flemming and Aliss Walker. A handsome set of fox furs, given by Mr. J. Alanuel, was awarded to Aliss Eileen Jeffes, of Alfriston. The prizes tor the best fancy dress costumes were won by Airs. Donaldson, grapes; and Mr. Kunard, Quaker. The judging was clone by Mesdames Kean and Pope. The duties of AI.C. were carried out by Alessrs. Warbeck and E. Pope, and a couple of pleasing extras were supplied by Aliss Alarie Darby and Ernie Bennett. The prizes for the various competitions were given by Messrs. Emanuel. B. Kart, R. Baddily, B. Myers. W Roberts, and B. Roberts.
