FARM INSTRUCTION
DISCUSSION AT DAIRY CONFERENCE CREAM-GRADING SYSTEM Press Association. PALMERSTON N., Tuesday. The annual conference of the National Dairy Association opened this morning, when about 350 delegates were present. The morning was occupied with the chairman’s address, and at the continuation of the conference this afternoon the delegates were accorded a civic welcome by the Mayor, Mr. Graham. It was decided to hold the next conference at Whangarei. The following retiring directors were re-elected: —Auckland district, Mr. F. H. Anderson: Tauranga, Mr. T. Winks;’ Wellington. Mr. T. Moss; Hawke’s Bay, Mr. J. Gilda. The conference this evening rejected a remit proposing to give dairy companies discretionary power in regard to deductions from suppliers’ cheques where the cream supplied was under 3.5 test. A long discussion ensued on the introduction of a proposal to alter cream grading from finest, first and second grades to first and second only. The proposal was rejected, as was a suggestion that concession rates *>n the railways should be granted for the carriage of cream. A remit that farm instruction be made compulsory involved an almost bitter discussion, the conference finally rejecting the proposal. Tributes were paid by all speakers to the good results following upon instruction, but the majority doubted the wisdom of making instruction compulsory.
