Crawford, director of the schools for the deaf and dumb at Sumner, Christchurch. At the meeting to-day, the chan man. Mr. A. Burns, said that after visiting the Myers’ Park School, Mr. Crawford had said that the room would not give the best results. It would bbetter to have a room at Wellesle' Street School, to which teachers in city and suburbs could send children with defects in voice and hearing and • I asked whether stammering couli be cured, and he said ’yes,*” said Mr. Burns. ”1 pointed out that a committee had been set up to consider backward children, but in view of the announcement that Miss Valentine wouldbe coming here to investigate, no action was taken." The secretary, Mr. K. C. Purdie, said that Mr. Crawford believed it wuwrong to put slightly retarded children in the same room with advanced one^. The chairman suggested that the board should write to the department and ask when the head of the defectn children branch would be coming to Auckland. "If we can give better education tv these children it is our duty to do so, - said Mr. Burns. Mrs. N. E. Ferner said that it was a very great hardship on many parents ; to have to send their children to Sumner. The chairman's suggestion was | adopted.
