KING COUNTRY NEWS
RELIEF FOR CONGESTED SCHOOL Considerable satisfaction is felt at the news received from Mr. R. W. Smith, M.P. for Waimarino, to the effect that the Hon. R. A. Wright, Minister of Education, has approved of a grant for additional accommodation at the Taumarunui secondary school. The present building was erected to accommodate about 75 pupils, and the number attending his year is over 120. The resultant overcrowding has been such that the highest form was forced out into the shelter sheds for lessons, as a result of which it is alleged the health of a number of scholars as well as the master in char:% of the class was affected by the damp conditions. The Mayor of Taumarunui. Mr. G. E. Manson, has received advice from j the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. K. S. Williams, stating that it had been decided, if convenient to the borough and other interested bodies, to defer th*e opening of the new Ongarue and Te Maire bridges. The Minister has given an assurance that he will visit the district on a weekend early in the coming session, and officially perform the opening of tjee two important new links in the King j Country roading system. The ceremony • will take place early in July.
