YOUNG MAN’S DOWNFALL STOLE FROM EMPLOYER Association with a fast set, making an increase in income necessary, a young man, aged 23, took the simple but unlawful way. The young man appeared at the Police Court to-day and pleaded guilty to charges of stealing moneys amounting to £55 from the Public Trust Office. Chief-Detective Hammond said that accused had been employed as a registration clerk. His duty was to take deeds for registration and he obtained the stolen money in small sums by altering the receipts presented to the cashier. Counsel for accused said that his client had got into fast company, and as he was receiving only a small salary, he augmented his income. “As he is on the threshold of life, I think he might b€- given probation.” said counsel. An application was also made for the suppression of accused’s name on the ground that it would prejudice relatives of accused. Accused was remanded to appear for sentence in a week, and in the meantime his name was suppressed.
