MINE FATALITY

STONE FALLS ON MINERS FATHER KILLED AND SON INJURED (From Our Own Correspondent j THAMES, Wednesday. Owing to a fall of stone in the Ohinemuri Gold Mining Company's mine at Maratoto to-day, a miner, Mr. A. J. Brien, aged 51 years, was killed. Mr. Brien and his son were timbering a. drive in the mine, and the son went away to get some more timber. On returning to where his father was working, he was knocked down by a fall of stone; which also buried his father. He ran out for assistance, and two men belonging to the second shift immediately . came to the drive and cbe three started to shift the fallen debris. It was not long before they found Mr. Brien, but he was dead, having been crushed and suffocated. The body was taken to Paeroa. where an inquest will be held.
