GIRL GUIDES’ CORNER
Sun Cloud, of the First Cambridge Company, reports: “The chief event this month has been the South Auckland Rally in Hamilton. We were billeted out by the St. -Peter’s Guides, who gave us all a jolly time. Each company gave a display of something, and our company’s item was an Ambulance Display. “We have begun gymnasium again this winter and classes are being held every Wednesday night. “Our instructress first gives us drill and marching, after which our instructor takes us for club swinging and then gymnasium, which we like best of all. We all look forward to Wednesday nights. “We held one field day this month, when we spent an exciting afternoon in the open, and then returned to our Guide Plall, where we had tea, after which we held our usual Guide meeting. “Last Tuesday, Patrol Leaders Margaret Hicks and Jessie Anderson gave a party at the latter’s home in honour of their Patrol Seconds, Margaret McCathie and Lil Sutcliffe, who are to be promoted to the position of Patrol Leaders. “A merry time was spent and, just before supper, a novel game took place, at the end of which the guests of honour each received a book as a token of love and appreciation from their respective patrols.” * * * Gold-tipped Feather, of the Arahi Company, writes: —- “On May 3, the Arahi Company held a party to raise funds for a sister company, when a display of Guide work, songs, games and the selling of parcels took place. “Afterwards the leaders served supper, which had been kindly provided by our committee. The amount raised reached £lO, and we are delighted to hear that a very good friend to Grading, has subsidised this amount. “Our Commissioner, Mrs. Seager, gave a short address at the close of the evening. “On May 20, our company was represented at the Church parade in the Town Hall. “On the following Thursday, we entertained the Richmond Guides. There were games, recitations, and musical items by the visiting company. Our entertainment took the form of a charade, portraying the word ’Hike.’ “After supper we had a sing-song. We spent an enjoyable evening and hope our sister Guides did, too.” * * * Little Pool, of the Tahutimai Company, states:— “One Saturday afternoon we all went up One Tree Hill. It was a glorious afternoon, warm and sunny—just the day for tracking—and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. “For the fourth time thg Heather 1 atrol have won the shield this term but they very much fear that they will not be successful next time. “Instead of being- held on the last Sunday of the month as our Church parade usually is, this time it was held on the first Sunday, as it was the Kings Birthday. There was a very good attendance of Scouts, Guides and Brownies at the Greenwood’s Corner Metnodist Church, and the service was very interesting.” °* St - * Marl " S Com“At a recent meeting we were verv knd er !r» e ? l S Captain's talk on CMna and are looking forward to seeing the -Y if ome ln hills some dav. .
