WINDJAMMERS’ RACE
GERMAN BARQUE WINS After a thrilling race from Australia, writes the “Daily Chronicle,” the four-masted barque, Herzogen Cecilie, reached Falmouth recently, having won the windjammers’ race that has excited much interest. Commanded by Captain Decloux, she accomplished the voyage in 96 days. The race started from Port Lincoln, Australia, the skipper having accepted the challenge of the captain of the Finnish four-masted ship Beatrice to a race to Falmouth. The ships left Australia together, but soon the Beatrice was left behind. When the Herzogen Cecilie entered Falmouth Bay and dropped anchor, a south-easterly gale sprang up, which prevented anyone from boarding the ship, and she has been ordered to Cardiff. Captain Declous: does not think the Beatrice will arrive for at least eight days.
