TE AWAMUTU AFFAIRS
Mr. Sidney Clark was elected president at the annual general meeting oJ Te Awamutu Municipal Band on Thursday. Mr. A. E. Patterson presided. The following officers were elected: Patron, the Mayor, Mr. L. G. Armstrong; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. E Patterson, C. G. Downes, and A. G Warburton; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. R. Bloomfield; bandsmen’s representative on executive, Mr W. Mensforth. The credit balance in the bank was £ 219 s lOd; there is £350 in the Posl Office Savings Bank and there are nc liabilities. The report and balance sheet were read and adopted. The retiring president presented Mr Clark’s medal for the bandsman showing the most improvement in practices ito Bandsman E. Findsen. The latte] I suitably acknowledged the presentation. Mr. Patterson offered to donate z gold medal for competition this year the bandsmen to determine its allocation. A motorist, Joseph Stanley Anchor was charged at the Te Awamuti Police Court on Thursday with negligently driving on the main Otoro-hanga-Kihikihi Road; also with driving at an excessive speed, and failing to stop after colliding with anothei vehicle driven by W. H. Holmes. After evidence had been Heard tin magistrate convicted Anchor of driving in a dangerous manner and orderec him to pay costs. John J. Peters was charged with defaulting in the payment of a maintenance order. He was £7l Is 2d ir arrears. He admitted the charge anc pleaded poverty. A sentenec of thre< months’ imprisonment was imposed to be suspended so long as defendan pays 20s a week.
